 DVCC HISTORY

The Domestic Violence Coordinating Council was founded in 1996 in response to the Women’s Fund Task Force on Domestic Violence 1995 status report, “Can" We Stop the Violence in Omaha?”  Included in this report were analyses of :
-  The extent of domestic violence in Omaha, NE.
-  Impact of domestic violence on children.
-  Possible sources of the area's problem.
-  Current response to battered women and their children.
Greater Omaha responded with a comprehensive domestic violence prevention strategy that included the formation of a 50-member, multidisciplinary community council with the following goals:
- Facilitate the cooperation and coordination between agencies, departments, and the court system in dealing with domestic violence.
- Promote effective prevention, intervention, and treatment techniques for individuals and entities working with domestic violence victims and offenders.
- Raise awareness and improve the community’s response to domestic violence.

The DVCC is a registered non-profit 501©(3) organization employing two full-time employees and one part time employee. Our employees are; Executive Director, Training & Education Director, and Administrative Assistant.
